![]() Similarities between the movie plot and what’s currently happening nowadays to incarcerated black men. Also the first Richard Pryor movie I’ve ever seen. It was funny, dramatic, classic Eddie Murphy. ![]() Harlem Nights - That felt like a true classic black movie. ![]() It had an easy-to-follow plot, a good story, and hit all the comedic high notes, but I wish The Man didn’t escape. I liked that everyone in the movie was successful and went to good schools and there didn’t seem like any bad stereotypes.īlack Panther: Wakanda Forever - Amazing movie but can’t help but think about how it might have been different with Chadwick Boseman still alive. I really liked the plot and how the women flip the script on Marcus so that he feels feelings. Snoop is Snoop.īoomerang - Excellent cast. Soul Plane - Has a great soundtrack, but this movie is highly problematic. Some people have opportunities and some don’t, based on where they’re born. Shout-out to Jada. Menace II Society - Acting was really good. While it’s gotten better it’s nowhere near where it should be. Hollywood Shuffle - It’s upsetting that this movie came out in 1987 and still applies today. The cast is obviously the same and that’s incredible and that rarely happens with sequels. But without further ado, let’s get into the movies we watched last month.Ĭoming 2 America - I loved it. There won’t be write-ups for these movies because we watched them so long ago. Last February we managed to get through the following movies: Baby Boy, Hustle & Flow, The Last Dragon, Coming To America, The Best Man, The Best Man Holiday, Class Act, and The Wood. All feedback and suggestions are welcome. There may be some movies that you don’t see from this list that you feel we should have watched and that’s the purpose of this type of newsletter. We didn’t watch every single Black movie ever made during the past month, but I wanted to capture the ones that we were able to get to with an understanding that this list will continue to grow. Before I go any further, I feel the need to add a bit of a disclaimer. Because that’s the wide spectrum represented in Black films. I tried to pick a decent mixture of classics, underappreciated ones, and sometimes ridiculous movies. I wanted to get her perspective on these movies that I had seen throughout my childhood and adolescence as she was viewing all of these movies for the first time. The write-ups that you see below will be from my wife and not from me this time. A follow-up debuted four years later–the first sequel for both Washington and Fuqua-which sees Washington's lead character seeking revenge for the murder of a close friend, Susan Plummer ( Melissa Leo). Loosely based on the 1980s thriller show starring Edward Woodward, The Equalizer premiered in 2014 and saw Washington take on the role of Robert McCall, a former Marine who cuts a violent path through the Russian mafia to protect a teenage prostitute, Teri ( Chloe Grace Moretz). Can’t get any better, right?"Īdditionally, sources have told Collider that Fuqua is currently in talks to direct the third film. The tragedy of Macbeth and then going and beating some people up. So I gotta get in shape and start beating people up again. "They have written the third Equalizer, so I’m scheduled to do that. Here's exactly what the actor told us about his post-Macbeth plans for 2022: The trail has been cold for a few years now, with The Equalizer 2 hitting theaters in 2018, until Collider's Steve Weintraub sat down with the Oscar-winner to discuss The Tragedy of Macbeth and learned, uh, The Equalizer 3 might be Washington's very next film. Director Antoine Fuqua's The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2both belong in the rare but hallowed subgenre of " Denzel Washington beating the shit out of people," so needless to say we've eagerly kept our ears to the ground for any news of a third entry.
